The Massachusetts Community College Leadership Academy (MassCCLA) provides an avenue through which Massachusetts community colleges can prepare their future leaders while supporting existing talent. Targeting a select group of community college personnel identified as having potential for senior leadership positions, the Academy will offer these Fellows a rigorous and supportive opportunity for leadership development and networking.

The Academy is sponsored by the community colleges in Massachusetts under the general supervision of the Presidents’ Council. The Academy will be offered in partnership with the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, which will make graduate credit available. The Academy has also been endorsed by the New England College Council.

The instructional team of Benita Barnes, Joseph Berger, Charles Kaminski, Andrew Scibelli and Charmian Sperling will facilitate the monthly seminars as well as the capstone residential experience in June.

The fifteen community colleges are the fastest growing segment of public higher education in Massachusetts, with over 50.1% of students in the public higher education system attending.

In the decade ahead the challenge of tremendous student growth coupled with the loss of experienced and dedicated personnel at every level of our institutions presents both the context and the content for the Community College Leadership Academy.
